The Chocolate Hills Of the Philippines
Tuesday, October 19th, 2010The Philippines is a very interesting place to visit with densely populated urban areas surrounded by beautiful, lush and literally wild country that has some amazing land formations. The Chocolate Hills are one such amazing land formation, located near Bohol, and are part of the Philippine National Geological Monument. These hills, of which there are 1,268 look exactly like cones that have been turned upside down. Some of the hills are up to 120 meters in height, rising out of dense jungle to show a vast array of colors of green in the spring. However it is the summer months that give the area its name as the grass on the hills dries and becomes dark and the hills turn an amazing milk chocolate color.
Also in the Philippines is another amazing geological formation known as Mount Mayon. It is the south part of Manila and it is the most active volcano in the Philippines. It has the most symmetrical cone of any volcano in the world and it is being considered as one of the new Wonders of Nature.
The Philippines is a unique place to visit since there are so many strong cultural influences. While there is definitely an Asian influence you will also be surprised to find very traditional Spanish churches and Latin architecture. The food is likewise a combination of different cultures, with very unique combinations that are sure to become favorites.
